Detoxification
In modern society, we are constantly exposed to toxins. Essentially, a toxin is any compound that has a negative effect on the function of our body’s cells. In optimal health, toxins and waste products are broken down and properly excreted from the body. When our detoxification processes become overwhelmed, the level of toxicity in our bodies increases.
Where are toxins coming from?
- External Environment – chemicals (from dry cleaning, car exhaust, food preservatives and colourings, petroleum products, pesticides), drugs, alcohol, heavy metals (from contaminated fish, dental fillings, cosmetics, pesticide sprays, cigarette smoke, cooking utensils, paint, solder in tin cans, batteries, antacids and cookware
- Internal Environment – substances produced by the body such as food byproducts, hormones, acids, and toxins produced by bacteria and yeast in the digestive tract
- Emotional Stress – lowers your threshold to tolerate even low dose exposure to internal and external toxins
Can You Benefit from Detoxification? Extensive research shows that it is not a question of if we are carrying a burden of these toxins, but rather how much and to what extent they affect our health.

What Illnesses are Associated with Toxicity?
- Immune System Dysfunction: allergies, eczema, chemical sensitivities, chronic infections, autoimmunity, certain cancers (B cell malignancies especially)
- Nervous System Dysfunction: headache, cloudy thinking, depression, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease
- Hormone Dysfunction: weight gain, hypothyroidism, acne, premenstrual syndrome, painful periods, difficult menopausal symptoms
- Energy Production Dysfunction: fatigue, muscle pain, diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome
What can you do about it?
A healthy detoxification program helps you reduce your exposure to environmental toxins and supplies your body with adequate nutrition, antioxidants, liver support and relaxation therapies to support your detoxification systems. Nutrition is key - detoxification cannot occur if you starve yourself ! In fact, fasting can often do more harm than good.
